Le Petit Chateau: Try this French-inspired Cafe in Melbourne, Australia
I’ve made it a point to visit at least one cafe whenever I found myself in Melbourne’s central business district. On one of those trips, I discovered The Block Arcade, a magnificent, century-old building at the heart of Melbourne CBD. It has a range of restaurants, boutiques, and other specialty shops. I was doing what I consider to be one of my expertise; window shopping, when I chanced upon this charming French restaurant called, Le Petit Chateau (which translates to the little castle in French).

In my previous review of Roule Galette, another French cafe, I noted that it didn’t look like the French cafes that I saw in France, but Le Petit Chateau knew the assignment. The place is decorated with flowers and framed photographs. There were bistro tables and chairs and there was outdoor seating available.

Le Petit Chateau offers French cuisine, such as croque monsieur, quiche lorraine, and steak frites as well as pastries, including croissants, pain au chocolat, and macarons.
The food is a bit on the pricey side so I just ordered the Sugar and Lemon Crepe. It was my first time trying a crepe with lemon, and I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it turned out to be. The crepe itself was light, chewy, and had a pleasant sweetness. The tangy burst of lemon provided a delightful contrast that made the whole experience truly enjoyable.

While the crepe was amazing, the coffee was a bit of a disappointment. It was too bitter to my liking that I had to add some sugar, which I don’t normally do, just to improve the flavor.
Overall, I still liked Le Petit Chateau and the ambiance had a lot to do with it. It was nice to feel like I was in France at the heart of Australia.
