Coffee Shop Review: Sophie’s Mom Makati, Philippines
I have a fixation with cupcakes, you give me one when I’m having a bad day and I’d be indebted to you forever. It’s like a switch that when flicked can easily alter my mood. So whenever I see a cupcake place I get excited, like a child who sees a Jollibee sign after enduring a snooze-inducing mass on a sweltering Sunday morning. It’s what I felt when I spotted Sophie’s Mom after a failed mission of finding a new place to live in few weeks ago.
Sophie’s Mom is a small cupcake place in San Antonio Village, Makati. I’ve seen this place years ago when I’ve just moved into the dorm, but I didn’t get to check it out until recently. Just like the other cupcake shops that I’ve been to, Sophie’s interior and design are very dainty. It looks just like a doll house; walls are painted in muted pink, candy-colored pieces are strewn about, cushioned chairs, and floral prints on pillows and table linen. Just being there made me feel like a doll.
The place looks so charming I spent a considerable amount of time checking out the interiors, photographing every single cute thing that caught my fancy. I heard that they change the decorations depending on the occasion.
The Red Velvet Cupcake (PHP 65) is one of their bestsellers, it is soft, moist, and intact, pretty much how a cupcake should be. It has a cream cheese frosting on top. It’s sweet, but not too much. I loved it.
But I wasn’t crazy about their Dulce De Leche, which at first glance looks like your typical chocolate cupcake. It’s supposed to have caramel filling inside but for some reason, I couldn’t find it in this cupcake. It is also a bit tough and way too crumbly that the ants would have had a feast if there were anywhere within the parameter.
For drinks, they have tea, coffee, and some juices. I ordered their Brewed Coffee (PHP 85) which I find to be too expensive for comfort. But it’s good and I love the heart-shaped cup.
I wasn’t too happy with their Iced Tea too because it’s overly priced and it was leaning on the bland side.
There are many other cupcake flavors to choose from, and they also sell homemade ice cream, which I’m planning to try next time. So yes, I’m going back.
Yes, even when it’s a bit pricey, even when I wasn’t happy with the iced tea and the Dulce de Leche cupcake, I am still going back for more. Sophie’s Mom has a few hits and misses, but the beautiful interior, the friendly staff, and the Red Velvet Cupcake more than made up for the “so-so” things.

Maraming garapon sa Robinson's Magnolia. Nakabili ako dun ng mason jars a month ago.
Everything in Sophie's mom is picture perfect! Wala ata tao na hindi nagustuhan ang Sophie's Mom. I love their red velvet cupcakes, nutella cupcakes and the cheapest within my budget 😉 oreo cheesecake cookies.
I live far from Makati, pero sana mapuntahan ko din siya. 🙂
Have a great week ahead!
