Coffee Shop Review: Starbucks Lucky Chinatown Mall, Philippines

I just found another reason to frequent the Binondo area and that is the Lucky Chinatown Mall. I heard it opened in February this year, but I didn’t get to check it out until recently. On my second visit there, I had coffee with my friends, Tina and Bethel at Starbucks. What’s so special about this Starbucks branch? For one, the interior, the display, and furniture are Chinese inspired.

As with the food and drinks, we ordered something new… or at least those that I haven’t tried before. Like this Macadamia Chocolate Cookie (PHP 55) that Bethel ordered. The cookie is soft, grainy, with chocolate syrup filling.

Tina ordered the French Toast (PHP 95), which to me, tasted like pancakes, and that’s a compliment. It comes with butter and honey. The toasts are big, thick, and soft. I loved it!

For drinks, I had the Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino (PHP 165). How did it fare? For one the mocha flavor was pretty intense so I used the chocolate whipped cream to balance the taste. The cookie crumbles gave that gritty texture to the drink. It was good alright…. was it special? No. Still, it’s worth a try.

How about you, tried anything new from Starbucks lately?

Lesson learned for every coffee shop: Form over substance—especially if your customers are bloggers. They certainly will take a photo of your products, so ensure your servings look mouthwatering.
