Coffee Shop Review: Galette Patisserie Chocolaterie at Sofitel, Pasay, Philippines
My friend Cai and I went to Pasay last weekend for a staycation at Lime Resort Manila. It’s not every day we get to go to Pasay, as the city is too far from where we both live, so we took the opportunity to check out a coffee shop inside Sofitel while we were there.
Sofitel is the old Westin Philippine Plaza, and I remember going there when I was in college for an event. So there I was, 20 years later, back at the hotel that held some memories of my youth (although the memories are stored somewhere in the back of my mind, currently inaccessible).
When we asked one of the guards if there was a place inside where we could have coffee, he mentioned Le Bar and Galette. These two share the same seating space, but for the sake of this review, I’ll be focusing on Galette Pattiserie Chocolaterie because that’s where we ordered our food and drinks.

Booking.com🖼️ Coffee shop – Galette Patisserie Chocolaterie ambiance and interiors
Galette has a long pastry bar where you can find an array of cakes, pastries, chocolates, and other sweets on display. They share a space with Le Bar a Filipino-French restaurant so we had somewhere to sit.

Immediately, you have a sense that the place is for moneyed people. Everything in it screams luxury, from the grand piano, mahogany interiors, and deep brown leather seats, to plush lounges. A faux fireplace was on the far side, embellished with Christmas lights and decors. Liquors are on display and small bookshelves with coffee table books. Jazz music was playing in the background.
There was a liquor bar on the left side of the room and Galette’s coffee bar was on the right.

Ube Ensaymada
Price: USD 3.47 (PHP 196.55)

Cai wasn’t crazy about the ube ensaymada, but to me, it passed to my liking. It had ube halaya filling, making eating it much more enjoyable.
Blueberry pound loaf
Price: USD 1.54 (PHP 87.36)

We unanimously agreed on the Blueberry pound loaf; it was delicious. The blueberry topping was soft and had a pudding-like texture. The loaf was dense and thick, and the flavor was mildly sweet.

Mango juice
Price: USD 7.36 (PHP 416.93)

The mango juice was fresh and not very sweet. But I think it was overpriced; I mean, over 400 pesos using an ingredient native to the Philippines? I cannot justify its price, to be honest.
Mocha latte
Price: USD 5.26 (PHP 297.81)

Although it wasn’t disappointing, it wasn’t memorable either. To put it simply, I’ve had a better mocha latte before for less the price.
🫘 Coffeehan Scale
I give Galette Patisserie Chocolaterie 3 coffee beans.

I would love to try the ube ensaymada. But gosh, the mango juice is so mahal!
