Black Star operates in a compact space adorned with a charming coffee bar and a counter, flanked by a glass pastry case that proudly showcased its tantalizing offerings.

Seating options within the cafe were limited. There were two petite round tables, snugly nestled against the wall, stood adorned with plush cushioned seats and a pair of single chairs. Outside, a handful of additional seating arrangements were scattered about, their capacity limited to accommodating a few customers.

🥯 Black Star Pastry food

Rose and Pistachio Croissant

Price: USD 6.75

I haven’t come across a croissant as exquisite as this one. Half of it was coated in strawberry chocolate adorned with real rose petals and pistachios. Its strawberry cream filling, infused with rose water, takes the flavor to another level. While I’ve tried various flavored croissants in the past, this one stands out as the best. The coating also ensures that the croissant remains intact, turning the eating experience into a pleasure rather than a chore.

Strawberry Watermelon Cake

Price: USD 7.42

Black Star’s pièce de résistance is the strawberry watermelon cake, a.k.a. the most Instagrammed cake in the world according to the New York Times. At one glance you immediately understand why. This is Black Star Pastry’s signature cake and it’s famous for a reason. It has two layers of almond dacquoise, rose-scented cream, and a piece of watermelon, topped with strawberries, pistachios, and rose petals. It’s both a visual and tasteful treat.

I had never encountered a cake infused with watermelon before, so I was initially skeptical. Yet, heeding the raving reviews on Google Maps, I surrendered to curiosity. The cake proved to be a delightful treat, offering a refreshing and delicately sweet experience. The marriage of tart strawberries and the sugary essence of watermelon created a symphony of flavors beautifully entwined. The only drawback was its hefty price tag; otherwise, I would have savored it entirely on my own.

☕ Black Star Pastry drinks

Flat White

Price: USD 3.71

Black Star_Melbourne, Australia - Latte

I know some people prefer to pair their cakes with tea, but to me, no other beverage is perfect than coffee. The flat white was an equally delectable treat. Each sip was a perfect blend of richness and creaminess, fused with bold flavors, but without a tinge of bitter aftertaste.

Almond Latte

Price: USD 4.05

The almond latte offered a delightful aroma, with a smooth and creamy texture that was pleasantly mild, without any trace of acidity.

Aside from the standard coffee drinks, Black Star offers unique beverages that are just as pretty as their cakes and pastries. I have not personally tried them, but if you’re looking for something new, you may want to try the Strawberry Watermelon Latte, Hot Choc Mirage, and Ginger Ninja Latte.
