Michelle Melo, more known to her friends as Michy is the first food blogger that I’ve met and become friends with. And this August, she is the star of our Travel Bug Series. Read on to know more about this food blogger and her travel adventures.
First, tell us some things about you. Who are you?
I’m Michy, 26 years old, I’m a full-time IT Consultant and I also have a food & travel blog on the side.
Why do you travel?
I travel to relax, experience new things and try different cuisines.
When did you discover the joys of traveling?
I started traveling back in 2012 when I discovered the joys of discounted airfares. hehehe.
Out of the places you’ve been to, which one is most memorable and why?
Chiang Mai, Thailand! It was my dream to go there for such a long time. I love the laid-back vibe of the city and the mix of traditional and modern culture.
Do you like to travel solo or with a group?
I prefer to travel with one or two friends. I don’t like traveling with a huge group.
How do you prepare for a trip?
I read travel blogs, Tripadvisor, etc. and I ask friends who have been there before. I make a rough itinerary of the things I must do in the place.
What are your travel must-haves?
CAMERA! Cash, credit cards, pen, a book, lots of foldable bags, laundry detergent, hygiene kit, medicines.
What is the best thing that you learned about traveling?
To believe in the goodness of people. There are people out there who’ll try to dupe you, but there are still a lot of people who will help you without asking for anything in return.
Do you have a flying anxiety?
No, I love flying. I feel most relaxed when I’m inside the plane.
What is the funniest thing that ever happened to you while traveling?
Asking for directions in a tourist center in Taipei and got a written one — in Chinese. Nobody in our group knows Chinese.
Do you travel solo?
Not yet. I will, soon!
What is your ultimate dream destination?
What is your non-negotiable term when traveling?
Accommodations should be reserved or paid for in advance before arriving. I’m not too choosy with accoms, but I need a place to sleep in as soon as I get there.
Any travel tips to share?
Read a lot about the culture especially if you’re traveling abroad, check the weather, and learn your way around using public transpo. 🙂
Beach or Mountain?
By Air or by Land?
Exotic food, yay or nay?
