Travel Bug Series 1 – Cai Dominguez

Hi my dear readers, I am starting a new tradition in Coffeehan. Every month, I will be featuring a person afflicted with the travel bug. These are the seasoned travelers, the seat sale waiters, and the travel tips experts. Because we all love traveling, why not learn a thing or two from these people?

Our first featured traveler is a good friend of mine, Carlo Dominguez, also known as “Cai.”

First, tell us some things about you

Hi! I’m Cai Dominguez, the blogger behind Travelosyo. I’m a Marketing Graduate and an HR Specialist by day and night (working in BPO industry). I’m a soft-spoken guy at first but once you get to know me better I assure you that there is no boring moment with me.Β [Read:Β Backpacker Teacher]

Why do you travel?

I travel for several reasons and with a purpose. I want to bring up issues to the local and national government whenever I encounter opportunities for improvement during my travel. Traveling is also my way to reconnect with nature and feel its presence. Also, this is my way of promoting the beauty of the Philippines and the hospitality of Filipino to the world. I’m also pushing my goal, which is #100HappyLocalTravels before I reach the age of 30.

When did you discover the joys of traveling?

I’ve always loved traveling as I have a dream to visit all the places here in the Philippines, but it was in late 2013 when I really started to make this dream come true.

Out of all places you’ve been to, which one is most memorable and why?

Batad, Ifugao. It restored my faith in Humanity.Β [Read: How Batad Ifugao Restored My Faith In Humanity]

Do you like to travel solo or with a group?

I prefer solo. πŸ™‚ I enjoy the moment without the distractions of others.

How do you prepare for a trip?

Read, read, and read different blogs. I make sure that I’ll read the most updated one. Also, I ask friends who have been to the place I’m planning to visit because a first-hand experience is still the best travel guide.

What are your travel must-haves?

Lots of underwear! Hahahaha! I always take a bath every time I travel. Usually, after a trip whenever there’s a chance to go back to the hotel I’ll take a bath before doing the next trip. Also, deodorant and moisturizer.Β β™₯

What is the best thing that you learned about traveling?

It’s not expensive, well you might question me what is my definition of cheap and expensive. I’ve been to at least 20 places here in the Philippines for less than 2 years and I never spent an amount closer to PHP 10,000 in all of my local travel. Once I hit PHP 7,000 it’s a red flag for me to control my expenses.

Do you have a flying anxiety?

None. I’m in love with flying!

What is the funniest thing that ever happened to you while traveling?

I remember when I went to Laoag, I never perfected a smooth slide in my sand dunes adventure. So Imagine me rolling down the sand, and I was laughing the whole time, so were the people around me.

Do you travel solo?

Yes, I consider myself Solivagant.

What is your ultimate dream destination?

Honestly, none as of the moment. But one thing is for sure, I love going to the beach.

What is your non-negotiable term when traveling?

Decent CR! (CR – Means Comfort Room, the terms Filipinos use for restrooms) Please!Β

Any travel tips to share?

Be brave enough to travel the world around you and arm yourself with tons of information about the place you are going to visit. Please read, research, and ask.

Beach or Mountain?

Beach, absolutely!

By air or by land?

By Air. I’m always excited to ride a plane.

Exotic food, yay or nay?

Mostly yay! Love to try something different!
