Updated! We got a winner!
It may have something to do with the fact that we are living in a stressful time that people started finding ways to take that much-needed break without straying far away from the city. In 2007, they invented a word for it, “staycation.” It gained popularity in the US during the time of financial crisis that lasted until 2010. Now, whenever I hear the word, I associate it with this 3-star hotel that is the venue of my first solo staycation. It’s somewhere in Makati, near my place of residence, which takes the name of the street where it is located, Guijo Suites.
Sometime last year I got sick and booked myself a room in this hotel. It was summer time and I figured I couldn’t get better if I spend it inside my room that is so hot, it would put any oven to shame. Or maybe it was just out of whim, I’ve been eyeing Guijo Suites for quite some time and I wanted to finally give it a try.
I booked a room, went there in my lonesome, and spent two nights in pure relaxation. The thing that I remember most about Guijo Suites is that it is squeaky clean, from the lobby, the hallway, up to the room itself. It is by far the cleanest and the most fragrant hotel that I have ever been.
Guijo Suites has two buildings, sitting across the street from each other. I stayed in the new building.
I booked a Deluxe Room for PHP2,400 (USD52.07) per night, inclusive of buffet breakfast for two. The room is bright and pleasant, I didn’t have a nice view outside the window, but I didn’t really mind.
Ever since I moved in the dorm, I no longer indulged in watching television. I made up for lost time in my two nights in Guijo Suites, the TV has cable so I watched all the TV shows that I could. [Book this room via Agoda]
The bathroom comes with toiletries and boy do I love them. My most favorite thing in the bathroom though is the big showerhead that would make you feel like you’re bathing under the rain.
The food in their buffet is not as extensive compared with the others (e.g., City Garden), but I like it just the same. Now that I mentioned it, I really think all accommodation should include breakfast, instead of it just being an option. In my experience, all accommodation I’d been to that comes with breakfast automatically win my approval.

To rate it, Guijo Suites deserves 5 stars, that’s how satisfying my stay had been. And I’d like to give you an opportunity to try it for yourself by giving away a staycation for two in a deluxe room at Guijo Suites!
