It was one of those beautiful things I wasn’t able to buy the first time but vowed to get back to. The cupcakes were so aesthetically pleasing it taunted my memories. Somehow the visual got me convinced it would be a delight to the taste buds and boy was I so right.
Frostings cupcake is my latest obsession. I recently discovered its stall at Food Choices, Glorietta 4. The cupcakes taste as good as they looked, what’s more, they are easy on the budget. Prices depend on the flavors and there are many to choose from. There’s the extra premium (PHP 70) variety composed of the Black Forest, Cointreau, Irish Cream, Kahlua, Limoncello, Tiramisu, and Trifle. Fruit-flavored cupcakes are worth PHP 60, such as Banana Peanut Butter, Blueberry, Carrot Cake, Crema de Fruta, Mango Caramel, Peaches and Cream, Prune Cake, Strawberry and Cream, and Ube Macapuno.
Premium goes for PHP 55 and offers the following flavors: Belgian Chocolate, Red Velvet, Sansrival, Swiss Chocolate, Vanilla, and White Chocolate. And the cheapest variety, the regular flavors (PHP 40) include Brazo de Mercedes, Double Dutch, S’mores Choco Caramel, Lava, and Lemon Meringue.
If it’s your first time to buy and is a little perplexed on which flavor to try, I suggest you buy the Cuplets. For only PHP 96 you will get to try three different flavors of Frostings’s cupcakes.
As of press time I’ve tried four flavors. First the Dulce de Leche, the flavor that instantly made me a fan. It has a thick milky icing on top that goes well with its moist and dense cake bottom.
Aesthetic-wise, the Blueberry looks better but falls short in the taste category when compared to Dulce de Leche. It’s the kind that is only good for making an impression if you know what I mean. It was not that bad, don’t get me wrong, maybe I just found the blueberry filling too sour for my taste.
I’ve only had the cuplet version of it yet I was totally taken. It was so good it’d make you forget your name. If there is a competition for the best icing, White Chocolate cupcake will win hands down. The creamy goodness on top makes a whole lot of difference to the cake. I so loved it!
My new favorite is the Brazo de Mercedes. Damn cupcake is packed with yellow custard filling! Its rich velvety flavor would make you sing praises in no time… I know I did.
My least favorite would be the Chocolate Strawberry Cupcake. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I am not a fan of chocolate, I’m not sure. I think though that there is something lacking, that they still need to further develop its flavor.
From time to time I get consumed by an overwhelming desire to eat something sweet. Thankfully there’s Frostings to take care of the problem.
Other Frostings branches can be found in Market! Market!, Landmark Trinoma, Trinoma Mall, Shangri-la Rustans, Landmark Makati, Glorietta 4, and SM Mall of Asia.
