Usually when I view a restaurant worthy of a second visit it takes me months to actually get my ass back there. This time it’s different; 6 days and I was back. Friuli Trattoria, a small Italian resto in Quezon City has affected me so much, it keeps me begging for more. Just how crazy I am about this place? Well, put it this way… I am willing to travel all the way to Quezon City via the train from hell, the MRT (ride an MRT and you’ll know what I mean) just to get there.
The first time I checked out the place I was with Ana. After my little tat session at 55 Tinta we went to a not-so-crowded Friuli few minutes before 11PM. The place is small, no fancy decors, but with faint Italian music playing in the background.
We checked the menu and had a moment of dismay when most of the foods were not available. According to the woman who was manning the cash register, most of their staff had called it a day. Note to self: it’s best to dine there early.
Whatever bitter pill I had been chewing dissolved the moment I got a taste of their food. They were so good words failed me. Let’s begin with one of their bestsellers; Tre Formaggi Pizza (PHP 180). It’s a thin-crust pizza with three layers of cheese; blue cheese, cheddar, and mozzarella. This pizza is orgasmically good! The flavor bursts into your mouth and it is so tasty I couldn’t stop helping myself to another slice. Just imagine I managed to finish four damn slices in one sitting when I wasn’t even that hungry! I swear it has to be the best pizza I’ve ever tasted.
I think I also died and went to heaven when I had a taste of their Angel Hair Puttanesca (PHP 130). Ana was even surprised when I let out a curse, that’s how good it was. It comes with a slice of toasted garlic bread. This is how you make an Italian pasta people! Sour, full flavored, with a generous amount of olives and tomatoes.
Given the fact that I had a great experience, I went to work raving all about it and convinced four of my office mates (my co-team members specifically) to come back there with me. So we went there last Friday, and what do you say, they loved it!
We started with a plate of Mozzarella Sticks (PHP 135). These are long, chunky, and oh so delicious breaded sticks with soft and gooey mozzarella cheese inside. It goes well with the pizza sauce.
Aside from tre formaggi, we ordered Margherita Pizza (PHP 180). This one tastes just as good only it has a sharp tangy taste because of the tomatoes and herbs.
The Tuna and Mushroom Pasta (PHP 140) has a full creamy flavor with a hint of spiciness. It’s the kind that would have you stuffed in no time, so I went easy on it. My officemate, Joanne loved it so much, she practically ate everything, hahaha…
This is a pitcher of Iced Tea, would you believe it only costs PHP 60? Yes darling, that cheap and it was already good enough for five people.
So if you are looking for a pizza place that is cozy and offers inexpensive but great-tasting Italian food, troop down to Maginhawa street and try Friuli Trattoria. Who knows, you might also end up loving it as much as I do.
